Before the 2022 World Cup Argentina’s striker was Lautaro Martinez, he had been a starter for more than 3 years before the tournament with great performances like the 2021 Copa America. Everyone thought that he had his place secured in Argentina’s starting XI for all the competition, but a few bad performances in the first game against Saudi Arabia and in the first half against Mexico costed him position in the team. Julian Alvarez also contributed to that happen with amazing games and gained his spot fairly, but before the World Cup started no one thought that could happen. Argentina was one of the biggest candidates to win the tournament, but the football world was expecting Lautaro to show up, not Julian. This shows how important every performance and goal in this competition is and how quickly things can change during the tournament. Our World Cup API provides data on every goal scored and shot taken for your users to be able to track every striker’s performance.
The 2014 World Cup was a very special edition of the tournament for south American football. It was the first time the continent hosted it and there were a lot of nations playing great football right before the tournament. Chile and Colombia were enjoying their best generations, Argentina and Uruguay had amazing players too and even though Brazil was a little bit short compared to past editions, they were the home team and had Neymar. That World Cup ended up having amazing clashes in the round of 16 when Colombia beat Uruguay with a memorable performance from James Rodriguez and Brazil won against Chile in an exciting penalty shootout. In the next round Colombia and Brazil faced each other and Brazil won it with an incredible freekick from David Luiz, one of the best in a World Cup. South American’ teams really were the main characters of the World Cup because there were a lot of big moments including them, something that’s not very usual. Our World Cup API provides live-match commentary so your users can keep in touch with every match and don’t miss any big moment.

The 2026 World Cup will be the first time that the tournament has 48 nations playing. It’s not the first time they have expanded the number of teams, since the first editions of the tournament between 1930 and 1950 went between 13 and 16 times. After that, every edition was played with 16 teams, until 1982, the year that they introduced 8 more teams. That went until 1998 when FIFA decided to play a 32 nation World Cup, the model that was played until Qatar 2022. Many people argued against adding more teams, because they say that some nations would lower the level of competition, but there are lots of people in favor of it because they believe that the level won’t be affected because nowadays football is more popular than before in every country and that there will be more matches to enjoy. Our World Cup API provides live match-commentary for your users to be able to follow every World Cup match they can’t watch live.

Diego Armando Maradona played one of the biggest matches ever against England in the 1986 World Cup. During the first half he was already having an amazing game, unstoppable with the ball and being the playmaker of Argentina, but in the second half he had the most memorable performance ever. First, he scored the 1-0 with his hand, in what he later named “The hand of God”, but the biggest moment came a few minutes later, when he received the ball in the midfield and dribbled half of the England team and the goalkeeper to score one of the greatest goals of all time if not the greatest. It was a crucial match for Argentina considering the war that ended few years before and that it was the quarterfinals of the World Cup they ended up winning. Our World Cup API provides live match-commentary for your users to be able to keep in touch with every big game and not miss any big moment.

Before the 2018 World Cup there was a lot of doubts about if Samuel Umtiti, the starting centerback for France, could play the tournament due to a knee injury. He decided to play even though he was putting his career in danger because he was advised to have surgery. He ended up winning the World Cup and being one of the best defenders of the tournament alongside Raphael Varane, his partner. He also scored the only goal in the 1-0 win over Belgium in the semifinals. The decision to play in the World Cup affected the rest of his career, which was plagued by injuries and a never-ending rehabilitation process for his knee. This helps to understand how important the World Cup is to the players, who might risk their career to have the chance to win the most prestigious tournament in sports. Our World Cup API offers the possibility to keep in touch with the live events in every match played during the competition.
